A study from Americans For The Arts details geographical information on congrgations of artistic endeavors.
The top ten cities having arts related businesses:
- New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-CT-PA
- Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County, CA
- San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, CA
- Washington-Baltimore, DC-MD-VA-WV [yeah!]
- Chicago-Gary-Kenosha, IL-IN-WI
- Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
- Boston-Worcester-Lawrence, MA-NH-ME-CT
- Seattle-Tacoma-Bremerton, WA
- Philadelphia-Wilmington-Atlantic City, PA-NJ-DE-MD
- Houston-Galveston-Brazoria, TX
The study (or, at least, the publicly available part of it) doesn't go much beyond this.
