Universal Studios has released the first nine minutes of Serenity online.
You gotta love 'em. I think my favorite in the list is Slim Picken's swan song from Dr. Strangelove.
Thanks to Rex for the tip.
These are always much more interesting than that other award show.
I'm rooting for White Chicks to sweep.
A co-worker is trying to sell me his old big screen TV. And, just in time, here's a guide to all the different aspect ratios, complete with examples.
Disney is caving in to Pixar's demands, particularly after the success of The Incredibles.
-- Update --
I stand corrected. Pixar's not involved.
Why didn't I think of this; all the lawsuits from the RIAA have been so very successful at shutting down music file trading, so it makes perfect sense for the MPAA to follow in their footsteps.
This claymation flick is touching, in an odd way.
Thanks to Andy for the tip.
Dennis DeYoung will be in the latest Hillary Duff/Heather Locklear movie playing the role of lead singer in a Styx tribute band. If you look really closely, you can see mirrors all the way to infinity.
Thanks to FARK for the tip.
As a general point, I tend to shy away from any movie that has a trailer starting with the voice over guy saying "In a world....". Well, this is the guy who reads those fateful words.
All the boo-boos in all the films ever.
-- Update --
Now, with a link that goes to the right place!
A Shrek musical? Does this somehow fill a void somewhere of which I have been blissfully unaware?
There's going to be a movie version of Miami Vice?
Christopher Reeve, dead from heart failure at 52.
Team America, the puppet spoof movie from the guys behind South Park, may be receiving an NC-17 rating due to "... a scene showing simulated oral sex between marionettes."
Marionettes? Puppets having sex?! Setting aside for the moment the concept of puppets without genitalia! having sex (obviously it's fake), are the prudes at the MPAA so terrified of sexual activity that an obvious joke deserves the most restrictive rating available?
Thanks to Ernest for the tip.
Even for me, this is way beyond the pale of normal geekdom. A comparison/contrast between Star Wars and Star Trek.
Three of the guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000 have gone on to start their own website.
Thanks to Rasputin for the tip.
The Last Starfigher wasn't even that good of a movie. So, of course, a musical makes perfect sense.
The director of such timeless films as Valley Of The Dolls and Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! has passed on at age 82, from complications of pneumonia.
John Scalzi (sci-fi author) is working on a book about the 50 best science fiction films. He's asking for help n coming up with the list.
Clerks was one of my favorite movies from the 90's. Kevin Smith is hard at work at making a sequel. I can't decide if I'm happy, scared or just sad.
A writers lists a few of his cinematic guilty pleasures.
I liked a number of them (The Straight Story, Hamlet, The Spanish Prisoner, Jacob's Ladder) while scratching my head as to how they left some out (Looking For Richard, Dark City, South Park -- one of the great satirical musicals). I'm sure you'll do the same.
Thanks to Frank for the tip.
The underlying message here is that teens have no taste and can't really choose. I mean, Best Thriller -- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Nothing at all better?
I kid! I kid! Teens have great taste; particularly when they buy something from me...
Halle Berry is either putting on a brave face or deeply in denial. Love to put the catsuit on again, indeed.
Surprising to no one, the original database got started over geeks tracking hot actresses.
Can you imagine Stanley Kubrick directing Jack Nicholson in the life story of Napoleon? It almost happened.
J Lo wants to star in a movie along with Marc Anthony.
Pierce Brosnan might be hanging up the secret agent gig. Or he might just be hankerin' for more money.
Thanks to Defamer for the tip.
A Simpsons movie will be coming. The when's an open question, but it will happen.
The Revenge Of The Sith opens May 2005. Movie reviews comparing it to utter dreck expected at the end of April (and any bets on how many change the order of the letters in that last word?).
Neil Gaiman, one of my favorite authors these days, will have one of his novels made into a movie. He's also in negotiations to direct.
Thanks to Scott for the tip.
If you remember The Mummy Returns, there is a scene where Brendon Fraser outruns the sun (you know, that big bright ball of yellow in the sky) to save his son's life. If you might have questioned the likelihood of that succeeding, you'll probably like this page.
Thanks to Cory for the tip.
Tonight, when I went to see the new Harry Potter flick, there was a uniformed officer checking tickets on the way in, as well as a sign saying no bags allowed in the theatre (for our safety/security, of course). Which does make it a bit odd, given that the particular theatre to which I went is located in a shopping mall. Coming on the heels of the body cavity search I got on Thursday, it seems that going to the movies is becoming more of a hassle.
Is this a promise?
In a response to Super Size Me, a journalist goes on an all McD's diet and loses weight.
One of the things that I always find interesting about seeing movies at the theatre is watching the previews. Not to learn about new movies (most of which show the best part of the flick in the teaser), but to find out what type of audience the studio thinks is going to show up on a given night.
